BHLC Bilingual Coordinators/ELD Coaches Meeting Thursday, November 16 2006
In an effort to continue to enhance the English Learner and Reclassification Policy Brief, the BHLC hosted a meeting with the Bilingual Coordinators and English Language Development Coaches from the Roosevelt Feeder Schools. The six schools in attendance were Dena, Sunrise, 2nd Street, Sheridan, Breed and Roosevelt High School. In addition, the BHLC held an individual meeting with the Bilingual Coordinator at Hollenbeck Middle School in order to learn from their input as well. The purpose of these meetings was for the BHLC to learn from the practical expertise of the coordinators by facilitating a conversation of what they believed were the major issues with English Learners and the low levels of reclassification. The gathering of the coordinators proved to be highly informative as the BHLC obtained key insight in terms of the multi-faceted issues that should be addressed in the English Learner Policy Brief. The BHLC aims to utilize the professional contributions of the Bilingual Coordinators in order to update and revise the EL policy brief for public information and advocacy.
