BHLC Steering Committee Meeting

The BHLC once again hosted the bi-monthly Steering Committee by convening community stakeholders and education leaders for the purposes of sharing the progress of BHLC education reform efforts in the community, highlighting the immediate challenges our schools face in order to contribute effectively to their improvement, and to introduce new members who can support the shared vision of increasing academic achievement in Boyle Heights.

In attendance were Roosevelt School Family principals and teachers, community leaders, LAUSD School Board Member Monica Garcia, East Los Angeles College, the Office of Los Angeles City Councilmember, Jose Huizar, Maria Casillas, President of Families In Schools, Representatives from Junior Achievement and the Campaign for College Opportunity and Occidental College.

Agenda items included:

  • Construction of Central Region Middle School #9 (Sunrise Solution)
  • Community Resources in Education for Boyle Heights Schools
  • Update on the English Learner Policy Brief & the Bilingual Coordinators meeting
  • Report on English Language Learner Accountability Institute and PEN Conferences
  • Future of ELACHE Work via the BHLC
  • Task Forces Update
