Mission
The mission of the BHLC is to raise academic achievement in Boyle Heights by means of:
Strengthening parent capacity
Developing student leadership
Operating across the Roosevelt School Family
Fostering a supportive civic environment
Vision
The BHLC contributes to the education reform landscape by creating alliances and shared agendas among schools, parents and community members. BHLC strategies stimulate education reform efforts and create momentum for innovation. As an intermediary organization, the BHLC connects organizations with different constituencies, playing the role of convener in the local community. The BHLC brings together a diversity of perspectives and resources: school personnel, parents, researchers from local universities and constituencies external to the district such as the business community. This alliance provides a window for civic groups to learn about the problems schools face in order to contribute effectively to their improvement.
The BHLC adds value to education improvement efforts by working directly with teachers, parents and students, generating new knowledge about best practices; offering opportunities for school staff to access new resources and expertise. The BHLC delivers multi dimensional programs that increase parents’ ability to advocate for their child’s education. The Society of Students program creates a culture of student achievement by directly impacting students’ personal and academic competency.
